We're here!

Made it!

It’s been a fairly long day but, despite van drivers Bob and Vern trying to carry on the M1 to Scotland, we’ve made it to York.

It seems now is the right time to announce the York charity we’re raising money for: Yorkshire Cancer Research.

This charity has been nominated by York City FC, and it’s our way of thanking the city and the club for their hospitality during our very brief stay here.

Here’s who they are and what they had to say about us:

As an independent charity that was established in 1925, we are committed to working in partnership with other charities and organisations to achieve the greatest impact in the fight against cancer. Our research helps to save lives, prolong life and improve the quality of life of cancer patients in Yorkshire.

With Yorkshire being below the national average for five-year survival rates for many of the most common cancers, it is vital that our research continues so that we can improve these rates.

We are currently committed to spending more than £20m to support 200 scientists that are carrying out vital research that matters to the people of Yorkshire. As a cancer charity, we are fully committed to attracting the very best talent and expertise to Yorkshire.

Our priority is to transfer discoveries that are made in the lab, to the patient in Yorkshire.

We are really delighted to have been selected as the charity of choice by York City FC and benefit from funds raised during the York2Pompey 300 mile cycle ride. Yorkshire Cancer Research is an independent charity that receives no government funding. Our aim is to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer more effectively to help the people of Yorkshire avoid, survive and cope with cancer.

We’d also like to say thank you to Lucketts Travel Group for providing a luxury coach for our riders to get up to York — thank you to our drivers, Pete and Ben, for being fab, too.

We’d also like say a huge thank you to Comserv for lending us a van, driven by Jason Feast, to get all the bikes up to York. We couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you.

Thanks to Comserv and Jason for the loan of the van

We couldn’t have begun to think about doing this ride without the support of our corporate partners, so THANK YOU.
